*This article contains minor spoilers for Spider-Man Homecoming.*
It’s been nearly a decade since the birth of the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe4. A lot of characters, events and items from the comics have been shown in the MCU movies in the meantime. The number of objects presented in them are probably much more in number than you think they are. This list reveals all of the powerful ones introduced in MCU movies, whether they be man-made weapons or ancient artifacts.
Iron Man Suits
Iron Man suits were created by ‘genius billionaire philanthropist’ Tony Stark. They are powered by arc reactor technology and shoot repulsor beams. These include the War Machine armors, also created by Tony. Among these, the Hulkbuster has earned the highest reputation by taking down the mighty Hulk.
The Whiplash Armor was made by Anton Vanko-Stark’s rival and son of Soviet scientist Anton Vanko. It has a different design as compared to Iron Man armors and consists of an electrified whip-like cable on each hand.
The Jericho missile is a powerful missile created by Tony for the U.S. government but he later found out that it was being illegally supplied to a terrorist organization.
The Ten Rings
Although we don’t see any actual rings in the MCU, the first Iron Man movie gave viewers a reference to ‘The Mandarin’-a Chinese warlord who possesses the Ten Rings that grant him various deadly powers.
Mjolnir is the hammer that Thor uses to smash things.
It was forged from the heart of a dying star, and is made of the ‘Uru’ stone. It gifts its abilities to someone who is worthy enough to wield it. It moves anywhere its user wishes and can shoot lightning when commanded.
Odin’s Trophy Room Items
The many magical items seen in Odin’s Trophy Room include Warlock’s Eye (it was stolen by Thor and the Warrior’s Three from Harokin-an enemy of Asgard), Tablet of Life and Time (it augments its user into a superior being), Casket of Ancient Winters(it releases a blast of powerful arctic weather that only a Frost Giant can handle), Orb of Agamotto(it can detect where magic is being used), Eternal Flame(it was stolen by Odin from Surtur-an enemy of Asgard), the Tesseract (an infinity stone), the Destroyer, Mjolnir and the Infinity Gauntlet.
The Chitauri Scepter was given to Loki Laufeyson by the Mad Titan Thanos. It has the mind stone molded in it that gives its user the ability to control peoples’ minds. Using it, Loki controlled the minds Hawkeye, Dr. Erik Selvig and some unlucky folks. The mind stone was later taken out of it by Ultron.
The Destroyer is an Asgardian weapon that can only be controlled by the King of Asgard. It is nearly indestructible and shoots fatal blasts of energy. It was used to kill the Frost Giants that infiltrated Asgard. Later, it was also used by Loki (while he was king of Asgard) against Thor.
The greatest item introduced in the MCU are the Infinity Stones. These are six in number namely the Time Gem, the Soul Gem, the Mind Gem, the Space Gem, the Power Gem and the Reality Gem. They withhold great power and grant their owner unmatchable abilities. The Time Gem and the Soul gem are yet to be introduced in the MCU.
The Infinity Gauntlet enables its user to control the powers of the Infinity Stones and grants him omnipotence. The Infinity Gauntlet was first shown in Asgard. Just recently, it was shown in the hands of Thanos. Currently, it is not clear that whether there are two gauntlets or one is fake.
This is the sword of Heimdall that enables him to accomplish various tasks like disguising himself as a human while on Earth and commanding cosmic forces into his sword. He can also use his sword to strike down a half powered Thor and can use his sword to wield blue flames from countless cosmic stars (whatever that means).
Gungnir is Odin’s spear. Like Thor’s hammer, it returns to its owner’s hand after being thrown. It is made up of Uru metal.
Black Hole Grenades
The black hole grenades were used many a times by the Dark Elves while their assault on Asgard. They are dark and egg-shaped and glow red when about to detonate. They suck their victims and wipe them out from existence. However, it appears they have a small range of around two feet.
Captain America’s Shield
This shield was designed by Howard Stark and is made up of Vibranium – the strongest metal in the MCU. It is in the possession of Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America who has used it against numerous bad guys.
The Super-Soldier Serum was so far used on Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner in the MCU. The serum grants its user superhuman human strength and peaks his capabilities. However, it often comes with strange side effects like mental deficiencies as observed in Dr. Banner’s case.
The EXO-7 suit was worn by Sam Wilson to help Captain America in taking down the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarriers that had been taken over by HYDRA. It enables him to fly at incredible speeds.
Winter Soldier’s Prosthetic Arm
The arm was given to Bucky Barnes as a replacement for his original arm that he lost in an accident. The enhanced arm gives him an edge in fights
Hawkeye’s Bow and Arrow
Clint Barton, a member of the Avengers, uses a flexible bow and various trick arrows in combat. He has used a wide range of trick arrows including standard and explosive arrows, an arrow that fired multiple secondary projectiles, an arrow that could melt through metal, an arrow that gave an electric shot and an arrow that was used as a grappling hook. He has also shot a bunch of arrows simultaneously.
Black Widow’s Gadgets
Natasha has many interesting weapons that are used to deliver high-powered electric shocks. She has been seen using wrist blasters, Widow’s bite, Taser Disk stingers and electric batons.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Weapons
A lot of lethal items were there in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that were used by both HYDRA and S.H.I.E.L.D. They include Terrigen Crystals, Berserker Staff, Splinter Bomb, I.C.E.R., The Destroyer Armor Prototype Gun, Truncheon, Night-Night Gun, Cigarette Laser, Thunderstick, Back Scatter X-Ray Eye Implant, Overkill Device, Dendrotoxin Grenade, Forearm Rocket Launcher, Taser Projectile Launcher, Heart Stopper, Neodymium Laser Fencing, Electric Net Grenade, Ionised Air Cannon, Peruvian 0-8-4 and many other unnamed 0-8-4s.
GH.325 is a drug that was synthesized from an alien corpse by S.H.I.E.L.D. It revives dead tissues in one’s body. However, it comes with strange side effects like hypergraphia, aphasia, catatonia and psychosis. After Phil Coulson’s death in The Avengers, Nick Fury used this drug during a series of painful medical procedures to bring him back to life. It regenerated his heart tissues apart from healing other injuries.
Ghost Rider is the wielder of the hellfire chain, that gets imbued with fire at his will. He uses it as a weapon, and later on as a Sling Ring for transportation between realms.
Chitauri tech includes the all the alien-technology used by the Chitauris during their invasion at New York. The tech is powered by the Chitauri Energy Core, which was shown as an explosive in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Two primary weapons are the Chitauri Gun and the Chitauri Staff.
The Quad Blaster was used by Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. It has two separate barrels and can be used to deliver three different shots-Lethal Shot (this is fired from the top barrel and is meant for lethal damage), Electric Shot (from the bottom barrel, the Quad Blaster fires an electric beam that stuns its targets), and the Dual Shot (this allows both barrels to be fired instantaneously and has a greater effect on the enemy).
Star Lord’s Helmet
Star Lord’s helmet might not seem much, but it has amazing properties like size altering, Oxygen purification, back-up air supply, pressure support. HUD display and thermal vision.
Star Lord’s Electromagnet
The electromagnet is a device that creates an extremely strong force field that attracts anything nearby, and attaches it to itself temporarily. It was used by Peter to obtain the Orb and while battling Ronin’s henchmen.
The deadly power of the Yaka arrow was witnessed in Guardians of the Galaxy and GOTG Vol. 2, when Yondu uses it to kill several goons. The arrow can change its direction in response to Yondu’s whistle-sounds.
The Regeneration Cradle was used to create Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It technology creates tissues as Dr. Banner claims. The technology used in it is remarkable as it was used to create a living person.
Ultron was an A.I. peacekeeping program created by Tony with the help of Bruce Banner by decrypting the code derived from Loki’s scepter. However, he regarded humanity as the greatest threat to the planet and tried to destroy it, but was eventually defeated by the Avengers.
Vision is an android created by Ultron and Dr. Helen Cho. He has the mind stone molded into his head. He is worthy of wielding the power of Thor’s hammer. He is one of the new recruits to the Avengers, along with Scarlett Witch, War Machine and Falcon.
Ant-Man, Yellowjacket and Wasp Suits
The Ant-Man suit was created by Hank Pym and used by Scott Lang. It has extra-ordinary properties like enhanced strength, size manipulation, enhanced durability and insect manipulation. The Yellowjacket and Wasp suits are similar to the Ant-Man suit. They lack insect manipulation but give their user the power of flight.
Pym Particles Disks
These disks are stored in a compartment of the Ant-Man suit’s belt, and can be used to significantly shrink or enlarge objects.
Crossbone’s Battlefield Suit
Crossbone’s suit is multi-purpose, as it is used as body armor and has hidden multiple explosives and hidden weapons. Its main feature are the arms that give a lethal blow to whomever the armor is used against. It was used in acts of terrorism in Captain America: Civil War by Brock Rumlow.
Iron Man Gauntlet
The Iron Man Gauntlet is a custom-made wrist weapon developed by Tony Stark. It activates via a wrist watch, and has the ability to fire repulsor blasts similar to the Iron Man suits.
Stark Sonic Cannon
The cannon is a type of non-lethal long-range acoustic device (LRAD) weapon developed by AccuTech, a subsidiary of Stark Industries. It is capable of emitting an extremely intense, focused field of compressed sound waves that can disable most assailants. It was used to contain Hulk in The Incredible Hulk, and miniature versions were installed in the War Machine armors debuted in Captain America: Civil War.
Diamondback’s Battle Suit
Diamondback’s suit was specifically designed by Hammer Industries to absorb kinetic energy. He used it to fight Luke Cage in the finale of Netflix’s Luke Cage.
Unlike other HEI ammo, the Judas bullet somehow drills through the victims body before exploding into pieces. The bullet was used by Diamondback to pierce through Luke’s rock-hard skin in Netflix’s Luke Cage.
Godslayer is the sword Gamora uses in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Apart from its sleek design, it has a detachable knife connected to the sword’s hilt.
Golden drones were seen in GOTG Vol. 2, operated under the command of Ayesha. The drones have firing machinery, and are operated remotely. The projection of the pilot can still be seen at the vehicle’s front.
Spidey’s web-shooters were first seen in Captain America: Civil War. They are mechanical devices that help Peter shoot synthetic webbing.
The Spider-Man suit was created by Tony Stark as a gift to Peter. It is much more advanced that Peter’s original costume, and has its own AI. It has many functionalities such as a heads-up display embedded in the eye lenses, a reconnaissance drone, gliding and parachuting abilities, and dozens of web-shooting combinations.
Iron Spider Suit
At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, we got to see the Iron Spider suit, also developed by Tony Stark for Peter. Though we’re not sure of its full capabilities at this point, we can presume that it will have spider-like arms as in the comics, and its own AI similar to the original Spider-Man suit.
Shocker’s Gauntlet was initially a part of Crossbone’s suit from Captain America: Civil War. However, it was later on modified using alien technology and used by Jackson Brice and then Herman Schultz, under the alias of Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Ultron Blaster Gun
The gun was used by Phineas Mason in Spider-Man Homecoming. Its base was made using one of Ultron Sentries’ arms recovered after the battle of Sokovia by Damage Control.
The anti-gravity gun was developed by the Tinkerer using tech retrieved from the Chitauri invasion and the battle of Sokovia. It can be used to levitate heavy objects.
